Slow Tale Time is an interactive digital storybook library for children from birth to sixteen. It began with the gentle adventures of Freddie the tortoise and his older brother OJ in a watercolour garden, and has grown into seven shelves holding eighty-four illustrated stories — from first picture books a two-year-old can follow at bedtime to a teenage mystery series set in the harbour town of Merhaven.
Four of the shelves stay in Freddie's world, shared out across the seasons and aimed at the youngest readers: Woodland Friends and the Woodland Kindness Trail for birth to five, then Slow and Steady Garden Friends and Kelly's Zoo for three to seven, where children start reading the words themselves. The three Merhaven shelves — The Wanderlight Chronicles for seven to eleven, Return to the Wanderlight for eleven to fourteen, and Wanderlight Revisited for fourteen to sixteen — are one continuous sequence, so a child can grow up inside a single world and follow it all the way to a slow, grown-up investigation.
The variety is deliberate: short read-aloud picture books, early readers with a line or two a page, linked chapter stories that carry a mystery from one tale to the next, and full audio editions on the older shelves. Every story is illustrated in a soft watercolour style and can be narrated aloud so children read along at their own pace. Night mode softens the page for bedtime, a sticker collection rewards finishing each tale, and every shelf has a guide for parents and one for teachers.
The first story on every shelf is free to enjoy forever, so a family can try the right stage at no cost. On the four garden shelves each further tale is 50p, or £4.99 for all twelve. On the three Merhaven shelves each tale is 75p, or £6.99 for the full series. Every unlock is a one-time payment that lasts a lifetime, with no subscriptions, no ads and no in-app pressure.
Slow Tale Time is built by a small, independent team of storytellers, illustrators, and parents who believe that the best stories are the ones children return to again and again. We created Slow Tale Time because we wanted a digital storybook that feels like a real book — warm, gentle, and made with care.
